On April 1st members of the Tinsley Planning and Development committee and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) staff braved the cold for the DECs first site visit to Tinsley HIll.The town owned property will be the location of NYS's only non-NYS owned archery range and will be fully funded by Federal grants. The range will feature ADA compliant lanes for adults and children as well as a raised shooting platform. Our DEC partners commented the field is much larger than the previously established Saratoga Sand Plains Wildlife Management Area Archery Range. The DEC experts were pleased that the park provides ample space to safely
enjoy Tinsley’s other amenities while the range is in use.
The excitement around the Town of Nelson's second collaboration with the DEC was palpable! The Town of Nelson and the Erieville Revitalization Committee are planning other projects at Tinsley Hill including improvements to the existing pavilion, restrooms, and hiking trails. Revenue received from logging the property in 2022 will be reinvested into the park per the original property transfer agreement.
This regulation archery range will be open to the public and serve recreational archers, serious hunters and competitive target shooters alike.
